Construction of Dalian Metro Line 5 has entered the acceleration period of shield construction.
On September 18, Dalian Metro Line 5 Houguancun Station to Houyan Station section, "Dalian 2" shield machine officially started, and the same section of the "Dalian 3" shield machine will start on the 30th of this month. The construction of shield tunneling in the same section started twice within half a month, which marked the construction of Dalian Metro Line 5 into the accelerated period of shield construction.

Zhou Mengjia, general mechanic of 08 bidding section of Dalian Metro Line 5, said that Dalian No. 2 shield machine is made of China Railway equipment. It is 85 meters long, weighs 500 tons and has a diameter of 6.47 meters. It has many leading technologies.

The cutter head is equipped with a leading geological survey and a wear detection. If a karst cave appears in front of the cutter head, the advance geological prediction system will also alarm. The cutter head is equipped with synchronous grouting, filling the gap between the shield shell and the outer wall of the pipe segment while driving to prevent the surface from collapsing.
The section from Houguancun Station to Houyan Station is 3340 meters in length. It needs to cross the Shenyang-Dalian-Harbin-Dalian High-speed Railway, the Shenhai-Haihai High-speed Railway and the Houyan Interchange many times. The facilities such as residential areas, enterprises and high-voltage line network are closely distributed along the section. It is the most difficult control project in the construction of Metro Line 5. The shield No. 3 of Dalian No. 2 shield machine is also ready for Dalian.

We put two shield machines into production at the same time. Because of the specification requirements and construction safety, we are left and right line separately. Today, the left line shield machine will be launched. The right line shield machine will be launched on September 30. Overall, it is expected that the whole line will be opened in August 2020.
Houguancun Station is the terminal of Dalian Metro Line 5, and will also be the transfer station of Dalian Metro Line 1 North Extension Line in the future. Affected by relocation, only 50 meters of the 350-meter-long station is qualified for construction. In order to ensure the construction period of shield tunneling, the construction units also overcome many difficulties.

It's all granite. It's very close to the high-speed railway and the family area. It can't use explosives. It's all broken by machine. From October last year to this year, it's been constructed for 11 months. It's just for this 50-meter station, and also for the No. 2 and No. 3 shield tunnels.
This year is the trunk year of the main construction of Dalian Metro Line 5. Four stations are planned to cover the roof, two sections are connected, seven shield tunnels are launched and 13 shield tunnels are going down the well. At present, two shield tunnels have started in the two sections, and the double shield tunneling in the same section within half a month also marks the overall speed-up of the shield tunneling construction of Line 5.

Two shield machines will be launched in October and one in November. In November, seven shield tunnels will be completed ahead of schedule. The start of the seven shield tunnels marks the transition and acceleration period of the construction of the shield tunneling section of Dalian Line 5, creating the best conditions for the full start of the shield tunneling section next year.
Dalian Metro Line 5 starts at Hutan New Area Station and Houguancun Station, with a total length of 27.5 km. There are 18 stations and 7 transfer stations: Hutan New Area Station, Labor Park Station, Qingniwa Bridge Station, Dalian Station, Barracuda Bay Station, Houyan Station and Houguancun Station. Up to now, all sections have been started.
It is expected that Metro Line 5 will be opened to traffic at an early date.
